These paths tend to be short-cuts.
CH30/15 and CH30/9 were possibly part of an ancient north-south route (Thorncombe
to Ilminster) while CH30/8 is probably the remains of a similar
east-west (Whatley to Hey Farm) route by-passing the village centre. At
one time there would undoubtedly have been a footpath connecting the
Back Street ends of CH30/8 and CH30/9 to the Fore Street ends of CH30/6
and CH30/15.
