| THE LEGEND OF WINSHAM A short play written and produced by Stella Abbey |
| The Legend of Winsham is based
on the geography of Winsham rather than it's history. Winsham had
recently experienced flooding ,so the River Axe is seen as a fiercesome
dragon, intent on devouring the village. Even the arrival of
Christianity, and a visit from St.George himself, fail to subdue the
dragon, until it is discovered that it is afraid of the sound of the
church bells. But he still lurks in the Axe valley, waiting his chance
for revenge. The style of the play was narration and mime, with dramatic effects from a bass drum. It was performed at the 'Bell Inn', Bere Farm, and in the school. |
